Auditions Saturday 9th February, 2pm, Melville Theatre Company

Rabbit Hole is a simple and touching story dealing with the worst of all situations; the loss of a child. But it is not overly morbid or depressing.  It is sad, yes, very sad but it also has humour and, I believe, a sense of hope.  Danny was four when he died, prior to the starting point of the story, and how his mother, father, aunt, grandmother and the young driver of the car deal with their grief and the effects it has on their lives and relationships, forms the story. It is honest, raw at times and very beautiful.
Rabbit Hole is a Pulitzer Prize winning drama with five characters.

Becca – late thirties/early forties.  Danny’s mother.
Howie - late thirties/early forties.  Danny’s father.
Izzy – mid thirties. Becca’s sister.
Nat – mid sixties. Becca’s mother.
Jason – seventeen, driver of the car that hit Danny.

The play is set in contemporary Larchmont, New York.
If all five actors can do convincing accents, then it will be played with accents. If they can’t, then it will be played in natural voices.
Accents are not necessary for the audition.

The audition will consist of readings from the script, and possibly some improvisation.
Preparation for the audition should consist of reading the script, but not watching the film!

Full commitment to the entire rehearsal period is expected.
Rehearsals will start the week after auditions. Three rehearsals a week (possibly less for Jason) probably Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday but days are to be decided after casting.
There will be no rehearsal on the Sunday of the March long weekend.
Please note, there is a performance scheduled on Anzac Day.

A Month Of Sundays

Details:
A Month of Sundays - auditions held February 2-3, 2013
A Month of Sundays will be Roleystone's first production for 2013, showing on April 5, 6, 7 (matinee), 12, 13.

Written by Bob Larbey, who also wrote for the TV series A Fine Romance and The Good Life, it gives us two blokes in a rest home for the elderly.

Cooper is garrulous and angry about the physical aspects of 'getting on.'

Aylott is 'quite fit for his age' but is showing the first signs of dementia.

Nurse Wilson is a sensible and sensitive nurse, old enough to take Cooper's flirting with a grain of salt and about to marry her live-in boyfriend (25-30 y/o.)

Mrs Baker is a down-to-earth, matronly domestic worker dealing with her own aging father at home.

Julia and Peter are Cooper's daughter and son-in-law (early 40s) who visit him on the first Sunday of each month, with their teenage son Gary (doesn't show up in this play.)

Auditions held on 2nd-3rd February, with rehearsals then held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings plus some weekends. Cooper required for all rehearsals, Nurse Wilson for most, Aylott, Julia, Peter for many and Mrs Baker for less.

This is a very warm, human, straightforward and naturalistic play, and a favourite for community theatre companies. Will be set in 1990s in high-standard Mandurah-type facility, making it a tedious monthly drive for professional middle-class Julia and Peter who live north of Joondalup. Actors will be given liberties to create their characters and develop their relationships with the others.

TIME: The Present

Gary and Ros, both recently divorced, and now married to each other have decided to move away from the city and take up a few acres of land in the South West of WA. At first all goes well. Their neighbours seem a little eccentric but there are no real problems. They enjoy the space and freedom and Gary finds out that he has a real talent for growing things.
The situation changes when Gary’s sister, Bernice, arrives with a tale of woe about their mother. It gets decidedly more problematical when Gary starts digging in the old chook yard...
